Molly has a pretty dress on, but it’s really fastened with three velcro dots. Piece of cake for a three-year-old.
This summer, I promised myself to get done with this project. I dug out my sewing machine & went to work. I don’t even sew much any more, so this alone was a huge undertaking. I made some little jeans, a couple of hats, a kente cloth outfit, a knitted cardigan, socks, pajamas, and more.
Now the six dolls are finished.
I no longer work at the school whose children I made the dolls for. Miss Rita Goodbook will not be the one to introduce them. I will not see the children’s faces when they play with these dolls. It’s possible that nobody will care, that they will end up in a dusty back room.
Nonetheless, I have kept my promise. I release my little creations into the world to seek their fortune. They aren’t mine anymore.
